Then fill the tank with gas and make sure fuel flows freely from the end of the hose that connects to the inlet side of your new fuel pump. If the gas flows free then all is well there. As far as the pedal coming back too far, check the foot rest to see if it's not bent down where the brake pedal rests when it returns. The brake is adjustable.
